I heard about SOS ( Sumatran Orangutan Society ) since I was in UK. It is fascinating to
know that there is a foreigner cares a lot about Indonesia's orangutan. While at the same time, Indonesian people
are busy of themselves poaching and burning the forests. It is a shame for me as Indonesian; I wish I could do more
than sympathy to her. That is why I came down to Ubud in Bali to see her.
Lucy is a former trapeze artist in a circus. She came to Indonesia three years ago, struggles to
save the remaining forest, the only rehabilitation site for orangutans in Bohorok, island of
Sumatra.
She struggles to gain support and global charity status by public
speaking, set up a website, recruit volunteers & many more. She also directly goes into the forest and teaches
orphan babies to swing ; climb & doing everydays activity as their mother normally show them how to do it.
It's a sad fact as she let me know that the Indonesian government now rejects to
receive aids from foreign volunteers like what Lucy does, they close the rehabilitation center to the new
entrants & a need to find new rehabilitation site is crucial.
While she actively campaigning in UK and overseas, a team of volunteers to do
homework in Indonesia is considered necessary but so far she hasn't find any. She established her HQ in Bali as a
need for those who live in Bali.
It is a great honor to meet her, I admire her hard works & personality and wish
SOS will prevail as the orangutans indeed needs her...
If you'd like to help in any ways, ideas, supports, etc...do let me know. I'll direct it to Lucy.
