BEING A BALINESE

Almost all Balinese live in desa or villages. In larger places like Denpasar, people usually commute, even only on weekends, to the villages where they were born. Family is the center and the most important aspect of a Balinese’s life.

Children are protected and raised by many people, sometimes by the uncles, the aunts and even the in-laws. They are closely knitted together with one another and form an ancient yet at the same time modern society that is uniquely Balinese.
